PABLO ESCOBAR: NARCOS KING
The city of Medellin is the second-largest in the South American nation of Columbia. It is nestled in the Aburra Valley in the Andes ranges.
On December 2 1992 citizens of the district of Los Olivos heard gunshots from the rooftops. They saw two men running across the orange – tiled roofs, pursued by a group of armed and uniformed men.
A short gunfight ensued. Soon eight armed men, officers of the National Columbian Police, posed for photographs, brandishing weapons and smiling over the bloody corpse of a 44 year old man.
That man was Pablo Emilia Escobar Gaviria, known in the annals of infamy simply as Pablo Escobar.
He had been the most powerful drug lord in Colombia and one of the most notorious in the world. He was so pernicious that for a time he was number one on the hit list of the United States. He controlled the cocaine trade in the United States.
He used wealth and terror to dominate Columbian politics and destroy his enemies. He openly flaunted his fantastic wealth, believing that he was untouchable.
But there he was, a bare-footed, bloody corpse, his executioners shouting ‘Viva Columbia! Viva Columbia!’
But who was this man, and what was his story?
