Can’t they see how important we are to them? Don’t they understand that we’d be the perfect match if they would just commit themselves to us? When, in fact, time after time, the evidence has been and remains: “They’re Just Not That Into You.”
This book describes the reasons why the longed-for relationship rarely forms and even more rarely lasts. It divides those reasons into three sets: “It’s Not You, It’s Them,” “It’s Not You, It’s Someone Else,” and “It’s Not You, It’s . . . No, Actually It IS You.” Each section describes the characteristics of the policymakers and the researchers that combine to keep them apart as well as the demands and influences of others in the policy process who can lure the policymakers away. The book ends with a set of options for researchers to consider to improve their relationships and odds of impact, but acknowledges that sometimes no matter what you as a researcher can do, policymakers will remain “just that not into you.”
